Isatou Njie Saidy (born March 5, 1952 in Kuntaya ; also Aisatu N'Jie-Saidy) is a West African politician and the former Vice President of Gambia .

Life

Njie Saidy was in Kuntaya in the district Jokadu in the North Bank Division born. After completing school, she initially trained as a teacher. From September 1983 to December 1989, she served as executive director of the women's affairs office, the Gambia National Women's Council and National Women's Bureau .

From July 1996 to 2001, she was Secretary of State for Health and Social Affairs in the Cabinet of Gambia under President Yahya Jammeh . In 1996 she also took over the Secretary of State for Women's Affairs .

From March 20, 1997 to January 2017, she was Vice President of The Gambia. She was West Africa's first female vice president.

In September 2019, the results of the Janneh Commission , a committee of inquiry set up by the Barrow government to investigate Jammeh's financial activities, were published. Accordingly, Njie Saidy has financially enriched himself under Jammeh. She was banned from holding any political office for five years. The Commission also proposed to confiscate two pieces of land.
