Jokadu is one of 35 districts - the second highest level of administrative division - in the West African state of Gambia . It is one of six districts in the North Bank Region .

According to a calculation from 2013 about 19,847 inhabitants live there, the result of the last published census of 2003 was 17,850.

The name is derived from Jokadu , a former small empire.

population

According to a survey from 1993 ( census at the time ), the largest population group is the Wolof, with a share of around four-tenths, followed by the Fula and the Mandinka. The distribution in detail: 22.6% Mandinka , 24.3% Fula , 37.7% Wolof , 0.2% Jola , 0.7% Serahule , 5.9% Serer , 0% Aku , 0.4% Manjago , 7.8% Bambara and 0.4% other races.
