Yankuba Touray

Yankuba Touray (born June 9, 1966 in Nawleru , Central Baddibu; spelling Yankouba Touray ) is a Gambian politician.

Life

Touray, who comes from the Mandinka ethnic group , attended the Muslim High School in Banjul from 1979 to 1984 and joined the Gambia National Army in 1986 . His career in the military led to a second lieutenant in 1991 and an administrative officer at the Army Training School at Farafenni in 1993 .

Three days after the coup in 1994 Touray was in the Armed Forces Provisional Ruling Council appointed (AFPRC), where he took over the duties as Minister of Local Government and Lands ( English minister for local government and lands ). In November 1994 he was promoted to the rank of captain. In September 1996, Touray left the Army and retired. In March 1997 he was appointed by President Yahya Jammeh appointed Secretary of State for Youth and Sports ( English Secretary of State (SoS) for youth and sports ). In the Alliance for Patriotic Reorientation and Construction (APRC) party, he was appointed a national mobilizer. August 2000 there was a cabinet reshuffle and he got the post of State Secretary for Tourism and Culture ( English SoS of tourism and culture ) Another cabinet reshuffle took place in October 2003 which made him State Secretary for Communication, Information and Technology ( English SoS of communication, information, and technology ). Two months later, he was disgraced by President Jammeh, dismissed and charged with corruption. In June 2005 he was again given a post in the cabinet as State Secretary for Agriculture and Fisheries ( English SoS of Agriculture and Fisheries ). In October of the same year the departments were redistributed, he that now as Secretary of State for Fisheries and Resources ( English SoS of fisheries and resources ) sits in the Cabinet. In November 2007, the National Assembly, he was (the departments affairs English National Assembly Matters ) attributed.

In June 2009, Touray was dismissed from the cabinet.

In early July 2019, he was arrested on suspicion of killing then Finance Minister Ousman Koro Ceesay in June 1995 .
