Ousman Koro Ceesay

Ousman Koro Ceesay ( even Koro Ceesay ; * to 1962; † 22. June 1995 near Banjul ) was former finance minister ( Secretary of State for Finance and Economic Affairs ) of the West African State Gambia .

Life

Ceesay was the son of the teacher Sainey Ceesay ( Seni Sise , 1931-2014) and the politician Fatou Ceesay (d. 2014). His father was also married to Abbie Sise , an insurance clerk . He had a younger sister, Ya Bajen Ceesay Jaiteh .

Ceesay, who had received an academic education in the United States , took over the finance department from his predecessor Bala Garba-Jahumpa on March 20, 1995.

Shortly thereafter, in June 1995, he was mysteriously killed. He was found dead on a bridge in the burned-out wreckage of his car 32 kilometers from Banjul . A crime was suspected and Amnesty International (ai) requested an independent investigation, but it was not carried out. According to rumors, mentioned in its annual report, Ceesay was murdered by a person close to the Armed Forces Provisional Ruling Council (AFPRC) who subsequently set the vehicle on fire.

On July 5, 1995, his predecessor Garba-Jahumpa took over the finance department again.

In early July 2019, Yankuba Touray was arrested on suspicion of killing Ceesay.
