Bala Garba-Jahumpa

Bala Garba Ibrahima Muhamadu-JAHUMPA (* 20th July 1958 in Bathurst, now Banjul ) is a former foreign minister ( Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs ) of the West African country Gambia .

Life

Garba-Jahumpa is the son of Ibrahima Momodou Garba-Jahumpa , the politician Fatoumatta Jahumpa-Ceesay is his half-sister. After his school education, Garba-Jahumpa spent the years 1975 to 1977 in the United States at the Suffield Academy and then attended the elite Vassar College until 1980 .

In 1981 he entered the Gambia civil service and worked in the Ministry of Agriculture. In 1982 he moved to the Foreign Ministry. For example, there he prepared the minister's speeches. He then went to Washington, DC from 1984 to 1985 to work for the Gambian Ambassador to the United States. In 1986 he returned to Gambia and worked again in the civil service.

Garba-JAHUMPA in 1994 shortly after the military coup led by the current President Yahya Jammeh (for Finance and Economy Ministers English Minister of Finance and Economic Affairs appointed). On March 20, 1995, he moved to the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Employment ( English Minister of Trade, Industry and Employment ), but stayed there only for a short time and was again responsible for the finance and economics department on July 5, 1995.

From July 1997 to May 1999 he was Deputy High Commissioner of the Gambia High Commission London and then High Commissioner until June 2001. On 21 June 2003 he was appointed ambassador to Cuba appointed, but remained in this position only until September and then in October (for the Minister of Construction and Transport Infrastructure English , Secretary of State for Works Construction and Infrastructure ) appointed.

On October 19, 2006, Maba Jobe was announced as the new Foreign Minister of Gambia as part of a cabinet reshuffle . Jammeh declared the appointment null and void on October 25 and instead assigned Bala Garba-Jahumpa to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

On September 13, 2007, Garba-Jahumpa was appointed as the new ambassador to Venezuela . Crispin Gray-Johnson was appointed as the new Secretary of State . On October 3, he and other Foreign Ministry officials were taken for questioning about passport fraud. He was declared innocent in the matter.
