Nuka K. Godtfredsen (* 1970 in Narsaq ) is a Greenlandic graphic designer and draftsman.

life and work

Nuka Konrad Godtfredsen was born in Narsaq in the south of Greenland. Artistically, he was strongly influenced by his grandmother's brother, the renowned Greenland painter Johan Markussen (1906–1994).

In 1995 he received his degree in graphic design at the Danish Aalborg . He then worked as a freelancer and worked for the Greenland publishing house Atuagkat . From 2001 to 2004 he mainly drew for Inerisaavik-Pilersuiffik , which produces teaching materials for Greenland. From 2007 he was employed at SILA, the joint center for Greenland research founded in 1999 by the Danish National Museum in Copenhagen and the Greenland National Museum in Nuuk .

Nuka K. Godtfredsen now lives in Copenhagen. He has illustrated numerous books and textbooks. He also designs postage stamps for the Greenland Post. He is best known for his four albums on the archeology of Greenland. They were published in 2009, 2012, 2015 and 2018 in Greenlandic, Danish and English. The drawings and pictures went into the touring exhibition Qanga , which is internationally successful as a tour. In 31 watercolors, she depicts the prehistoric life of people in the Arctic over a period of 4500 years.

In addition, Nuka K. Godtfredsen created the popular character Andala between 1997 and 2001 . The anti-hero embodies a kind of Greenlandic Daniel jet drive . The adventures were published in the national Greenland newspaper Sermitsiaq . They were also published in two anthologies in 2001 and 2006. In addition, other children's books were published by Nuka K. Godtfredsen and his wife, the Danish Eskimologist Lisbeth Valgreen (* 1978).
