Nunney Castle is a 14th century castle in Nunney , Somerset , England .

The castle is very compact in shape, with a rectangular floor plan and round towers at the four corners. It is a special case of the English quadrangular castle , a kind of fort castle . Nunney is probably influenced by French models (see for example the Bastille and Anjony Castle ). A special feature is that, in contrast to typical castles, Nunney does not have an inner courtyard, and therefore (according to Cathcart King) can be seen as a castle reduced to a single defense and residential tower ( keep ).

The castle is surrounded by a moat; there are hardly any other external works .
