The Nuruosmaniye Mosque ( Turkish Nûruosmâniye Camii ) is a mosque in Istanbul , near the eastern entrance to the Grand Bazaar . Under a large dome (26 m in diameter), five rows of windows ensure that the interior is flooded with light. It was the first mosque in Istanbul in the Ottoman Baroque style . It was built by the otherwise unknown architect Simeon Kalfa. The mosque is part of a larger complex that includes a madrasah , a library, a soup kitchen and a tomb in the shape of a Türbe .

The Nuruosmaniye Camii has some architectural peculiarities that distinguish it from typical Ottoman grand mosques of previous times: the corner towers, the horseshoe-shaped floor plan of the courtyard and the lack of a Şadirvan for ritual washing are striking .
