Sliced nut corner: the shortcrust pastry base, a layer of macaroon mixture and the top of hazelnuts are visible

A nut corner is a fine pastry made from a shortcrust pastry base , a layer of jam or macaroon mass and, as the top layer, a roasted mass of nuts. After baking, the pastries are cut into triangles or rectangles and coated with couverture on the edges or corners . A similar pastry with almonds instead of nuts is known as almond slices.

Pop singer Guildo Horn has made his alleged preference for nut wedges part of his public image based on his mother's recipe. As a result, this pastry attracted more attention, especially during Horn's participation in the 1998 Eurovision Song Contest .

The world's largest nut corner was put together on December 17, 2010 in Koblenz at the Deutsches Eck by the Rhein-Mosel-Eifel bakers' guild . The baked goods were 5.6 by 5.7 by 9 meters and weighed 450 kilograms. This has been confirmed by a judge for the Guinness Book of Records .
