Nyctalus (magazine)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Nyctalus (New Edition) is a bat - trade magazine that exists since 1978 in the same continuation of the old sequence name (1969-1976). The Nyctalus is open to original scientific papers and small communications from all areas of bat research and bat protection. Nyctalus is the only bat magazine in the world to appear completely in color and in 2 issues annually with a total of around 400 pages per volume (including table of contents and general index).

content

In the Nyctalus there are mainly scientific contributions from the German-speaking area, more or less regularly from Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and the Netherlands. In addition to the German, all original contributions also have an English summary. International cooperation is therefore an important element of the journal. This is also evident from the presentations on the latest publications from other journals and from books on the subject.

Editor and editor

Nyctalus first appeared in 1978 under the editorship of Heinrich Dathe , the director of the Berlin Zoo. In 1991 the editor changed and the magazine was published by Naturschutzbund Deutschland e. V./Bonn. In 1996 there was another change: Joachim Haensel became the publisher, who had been editor of the magazine since it was founded in 1978. After Haensel's death, the publishing house was transferred to the Working Group Fledermäuse Sachsen-Anhalt eV (since 2013). The editorship is carried out by Bernd Ohlendorf (Arbeitskreis Fledermäuse Sachsen-Anhalt eV), who is editorially supported by Marcus Fritze (Deutsche Fledermauswarte eV). For every issue there is a scientific advisory board made up of bat researchers who examine the individual manuscripts (peer review). The team also consists of proofreading and sales, which is headed by Kathleen Kuhring.
