O'Neill Scholarship

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The O'Neill Scholarship is a Swedish theater award donated by the American playwright Eugene O'Neill .

Shortly before his death he bequeathed the performance rights to the unpublished piece Long Day's Journey into Night ( Long Day's Journey Into Night ) the Royal Dramatic Theater in Stockholm . His widow added other plays on the condition that the proceeds would finance a scholarship for highly deserving theater actors. The award is made by the State Theater. The reason was gratitude for the early and lasting appreciation of his work by the Swedes.

In 1956, Long Day's Journey Into Night was premiered and the first time the prize was awarded, the main actors Lars Hanson and Inga Tidblad were honored.
