The OMR Oil Market Report is an industry information service and price information service ("Price Reporting Agency") from Germany, which has been recording news and facts (mainly) on the international oil markets since 1985. The recording takes place via the oil futures exchanges such as New York, London and ARA (Amsterdam, Rotterdam & Antwerp). The most important market-relevant data, news and facts as well as political factors are summarized and passed on with a slight time delay and published depending on the module.

This information service is mainly used by small and medium-sized companies. Compared to large, international providers such as Thomson Energy Financial , Platts or Argus , the specific OMR pricing is published on the basis of telephone surveys at regional or country level (Germany, Austria and Switzerland).

The development of the company

The company was founded in 1985 in Wrist by the current managing director and editor-in-chief Reinhard Kahnau. The head office was relocated to Kellinghusen in 2008 .

Further offices are located in:

  • Kiel since 1997
  • Bremen since 1999
  • Hamburg since 2000
  • Karlsruhe since 2004
  • Frankfurt since 2008

The development of the report content

The report content of the OMR Oil Market Report includes the price reporting from the beginning until today, the constant representation of the Rotterdam oil market with corresponding product quotes for barges (tank lighters) fob ARA and cargos (sea tankers) cif NWE (Northwest Europe, Northwest Europe) (see Incoterms ). These publications have been expanded to include wholesale prices at home (Germany) and abroad (Austria and Switzerland).

In addition to the expansion of price reporting, meaningful price graphics, extensive chart analysis programs and market comments are provided, which, in addition to looking at the price development, serve in particular as a decision-making aid for trading. Early indications, i.e. the morning expectation, are of enormous importance for daily business. Info Power Page includes, among other things, the currency development. The euro in particular is examined very closely here. Comments and euro graphics are updated and supplemented every hour. Market-determining factors and retail sales are always provided in a 24-hour overview.

OMR - Domestic Quotes

The historical development of domestic quotations began in 1985 with weekly quotations for normal and premium gasoline, light heating oil and heavy heating oil in DM per ton. Following the demands of the market and the speed of the ICE (International Petroleum Exchange) in London with increasing fluctuations, weekly quotations then became daily quotations.

The provision / dispatch of the generated reports also reflects the development of media usage and information technology.

The price overviews (RMA / FAME retail prices) for biodiesel , rapeseed oil, soybean oil and palm oil have been published in Germany, Austria and Switzerland since 2004 . This is prepared and published by an information carrier BER Bio Energy Report .

Price quotes AUSTRIA

Daily, weekly and monthly quotations from Austria are published via price quotations AUSTRIA . The published data are based on surveys that are obtained by telephone from OMR employees. It must be mentioned here that such information is treated with absolute confidentiality in the industry. The daily quotations relate to products such as heating oil, diesel (10 ppm) and Euro Super in 100 l per Euro. The average ratings are currently entered in so-called “low” and “high” areas.

OMR - Data Service

The OMR has a long series of historical data that can be of great use for final assessments and analysis. At the same time, users can access this data and extrapolate trend developments from the past into the future. As already mentioned, this partial information is offered via a wide variety of modules.

The customers or the OMR users can generally be found in the mineral oil industry (Mineralölwirtschaftsverband - MWV). These include producers, importers, mineral oil and raw material traders as well as large companies in the gas station business and economic research.

Other customers are in the news industry (business). Here the OMR is called up via the branch service if the daily topics, as now or in the past, deal with oil prices or developments on the oil exchanges. This means that investors can benefit from the latest market information.

The OMR press releases are regularly called up and informed by the Biomarkt and Biodieselmarkt. The current market situation is recorded and described with a view to the future.

Price formula base

Considerable price fluctuations have developed in the energy sector in recent years, whereby long-term calculations in these areas are no longer possible. In order to be able to keep the risks as low as possible, the price formula contracts were developed and adjusted taking into account the "Platts" quotations. The aim is to keep the risks as minimal as possible or to exclude them.

Market participants have been surveyed in three specific sequences for 25 years: at 11:00 a.m., 2:00 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. Here, the trading prices are recorded and evaluated over the course of the day. The calculated day-to-day price quotations are converted daily to reference, weekly and monthly values. When the OMR quotes are published, three benchmarks are shown in their range as "low", "medium" and "high".

OMR as an app

With the OMR - Oil Market Report you have the possibility to get the latest information on the most important oil exchanges in the world, such as in London and New York, also via the OMR app. The iPhone application is free and can be downloaded from the Appstore. The access data are requested and released separately using the form.
