The ODE 155mm Howitzer FH-88 is a heavy field artillery piece from Singapore .

history

ODE FH-88 was developed in 1989 by Ordonance Development & Engineering (ODE) in Singapore and is based on the GC-45 howitzer developed by Gerald Bull . The gun is used for fire support and was primarily developed to carry out artillery counter attacks (e.g. against enemy MLRS formations ). Mainly it was ensured that a high rate of fire is achieved. The FH-88 is able to fire three rounds in 15 seconds. In pooled batteries, this results in enormous firepower. At the same time, the FH-88 is able to fire the entire range of NATO ammunition of 155 mm caliber . This means that projectiles with daughter ammunition can also be fired, which further increase the destruction radius of the batteries and give a fire blow enormous force.

As a cannon howitzer, the ODE FH-88 can fire in both direct and indirect aiming.

technology

The ODE FH-88 is a conventional cannon howitzer with a power train system. It shows the usual pattern of a four-wheeled spreader carriage with an auxiliary motor for short-term self-propulsion. The pipe is lowered over the bars for transport. Two steering wheels enable control when using the auxiliary drive.

In order to get into the firing position, the carriage bars are opened with the assistance of a motor. The lowering and raising of the wheels as well as the loading and aiming of the weapon are also motor-assisted. In an emergency, the weapon can also be loaded and aimed by hand. The semi-automatic screw cap opens as soon as the pipe returns. The FH-88 also has a double muzzle brake .
