The Obererzgebirgische Passamenten- und Effektenwerke ( OPEW ) are a Saxon textile company based in Annaberg-Buchholz .

The company was founded in 1953 from the merger of several smaller trimmings companies into a state-owned company (VEB) . In the 1980s, around 4,000 employees worked in a total of seven plants with numerous branches. Produced braids and lace , effects of uniforms , towels, pillows, rugs, carpets and carpeting.

A large part of the goods was produced for export  - especially to the Soviet Union , but to a large extent also for the Western European market.

After the German reunification, only a few production sites were preserved and most of the employees were laid off. Since then, the parent company has been operating as OPEW Annaberg GmbH with around 50 employees in Annaberg-Buchholz .
