Lists on the subject |
The OSW-96 (ru: ОСВ-96) is a Russian self-loading sniper rifle with a caliber of 12.7 × 108 mm . It is intended to combat targets at a distance of more than a kilometer, as an anti-material weapon and to combat enemy snipers.
history
The OSW-96 is a further development of the W-94 sniper rifle, which is not very popular due to its heavy weight and length of almost 2 m . The W-94 was designed and developed in the 1990s by the construction office for device construction (KBP / КБП) in Tula for the FSB and the SpezNas .
technology
The rifle is a gas pressure loader with a rotating head lock . It has a plastic piston and a pistol grip, also made of plastic. The bolt locks directly in the barrel, which means that the rifle can be folded up to around 1200 mm. To fold the rifle, the shooter has to cock the slide and then release the barrel lock attached to the left side of the slide housing. A rubber buffer on the piston crown and the large and effective two-chamber muzzle brake attached to the free-swinging barrel reduce the considerable recoil. If the target optics fail, the shooter has the option of using the open sights that are also available.
commitment
The OSW-96 is used by various emergency services and the FSB in the anti-terror war in Chechnya, among others.
