The Design Office for Equipment ( Russian Конструкторское бюро приборостроения Konstruktorskoje bjuro priborostrojenija ) is a state-owned Russian arms company for the development of small arms and light weapons. It is based in the city of Tula . The company, which also appears under the name KBP Tula , belongs to the Almas-Antei group .

history

The company was founded in 1927 to develop small arms . Originally it was part of the Tula weapons factory ( Тульский оружейный завод ), but was later spun off as an independent company. Specializing in automatic weapons and machine guns for the air force , KBP weapons were found in 80% of all Soviet aircraft during the Second World War . After the war, the KBP developed anti-tank weapons ( Fagot , Konkurs , Metis ) that were used in the Soviet Union and other countries for a period of 30 years. Today the KBP builds guided missiles , various missile systems, ammunition and sporting weapons. Many combat aircraft such as the MiG-21 , MiG-23 , MiG-27 , MiG-29 , Su-24 , Su-25 and the Mi-35 helicopter are equipped with KBP weapons.

The KBP operates a biotechnological research center ( Fitogenetika ), exports weapons and issues production licenses . The company's annual turnover in 2006 was 14 billion rubles (the equivalent of around 400 million euros).
