At 145.7 m, the Große Wartberg is the highest point in the Magdeburger Börde .

It is located west of Magdeburg halfway between Irxleben and Niederndodeleben and belongs to the Niederndodeleben district of Schnarsleben . The elevation is one of a series of hills that line up in a north-south direction on a terrain step that slopes from the Börde to the east towards the Elbe . This chain also includes the Dehmberg and the Felsenberg . The Sieggraben (brook) runs on the west side .

In 1910 the Bismarck Tower (Schnarsleben) was built on the summit . In the time of the GDR , a radio station for the Soviet Army was set up on the Wartberg . Buildings for soldiers and vehicles were built. A garbage dump was created on the south side of the mountain . In 1993 the association Naturfreunde Wartberg was founded, which largely removed the traces of the military use, which had since been abandoned, and rehabilitated the rubbish dump.

In the Saxony-Anhalt state capital Magdeburg , Wartbergstrasse in the Stadtfeld West district is named after him.
