Lists on the subject

The Kitolow ( Russian Китолов ) is a cannon-fired precision-guided artillery shell made in Russia .

development

System development at the manufacturer KBP in Tula began in the mid-1990s. The system was introduced to the Russian armed forces on a trial basis in 2002.

technology

The Kitolow-2 is fired from conventional 122 mm cannons and howitzers. The propellant charge shoots the weapon out of the cannon barrel. Immediately after leaving the tube, the stabilizing and steering wings unfold. The grenade now follows a ballistic trajectory. When approaching a target, it automatically steers to the target point marked by a laser . The target must be continuously illuminated (marked) with a laser by a forward artillery observer for 5 to 15 seconds. Since different laser frequencies can be used, several Kitolow-2 missiles can attack different targets at the same time. Likewise, several Kitolow-2s can be fired at the same time at a single target.
