Lists on the subject

The Grjasew-Schipunow GSch-301 is a machine gun from KBP . It was created in the early 1980s in the Soviet Union and is now used as an on-board weapon in Russian-made combat aircraft.

functionality

The GSch-301 is a single-barrel automatic cannon that functions as a recoil loader . Rotating barrel assemblies based on the Gatling principle or the design of a revolver cannon were dispensed with in order to keep the weight of the weapon low. To prevent premature wear of the barrel, the rate of fire is adjustable and can be reduced to 1500 rounds per minute. Nevertheless, the life of the barrel is limited to 2000 rounds, it is then replaced.

Target control

The on-board computer of the aircraft takes over the control of the cannon. A laser rangefinder is coupled with an infrared target tracking system. Should the fire control calculation arrive at favorable parameters for hitting the targeted target, the weapon is fired by an electric remote control.

commitment

The GSch-301 automatic cannon is part of the armament of the following combat aircraft (examples):
