The Shenyang J-15 Fēishā ( Chinese  飞 鲨 , German  Flying Shark ) is a carrier-based multi- role fighter that is being developed by Shenyang Aircraft Corporation for the Chinese Navy . The J-15 is said to be based on the Russian Sukhoi Su-33 , but unlike the J-11, it is not a licensed version of the Flanker family.

development

The development of the J-15 probably goes back to 2001, when China acquired the Su-33 prototype T10K-7 and the cockpit section T-10K-3, which were stored in Ukraine . The machines were examined intensively and served as the basis for the J-15.

The first information on the J-15 came to the public in June 2010 via the Russian Defense Ministry . Colonel Igor Korotschenko confirmed that the J-15 was a "Su-33 clone" and not a stealth aircraft in the J-XX program, as previously suspected. The Russian Defense Ministry assumes that the J-15 was developed, among other things, in violation of the licensing agreement for the J-11. In 1995, China acquired the license rights to build 200 Su-27SK machines, known as the J-11, for $ 2.5 billion . According to Korotschenko, the J-15 was initially called the J-11BH, which proves the importance of the J-11 for the J-15 and is also the reason why the negotiations for the sale of the Su-33 "Flanker-D" to China in 2006 and 2009 failed.

The maiden flight of the J-15 took place on August 31, 2009.

technology

The machine is powered by two Shenyang WS-10 turbofan engines, each capable of developing a thrust of 126 kN. The first images of the J-15 were published in July 2010, on which the similarity to the Su-33 can be clearly seen. For example, the J-15 still has canards and horizontal stabilizers. The J-15 is to be used on the Liaoning aircraft carrier in the future.

It has an actively electronically scanning AESA radar , an infrared-based search and location system and is coated with radar-absorbing materials. According to the Chinese state newspaper, the J-15 is said to be aerodynamically equal or superior to all fighter jets of the regional armed forces, with the exception of the American F-22 .

During an exercise in January 2014, a J-15 was equipped with four air-to-air missiles (two of the PL-8 type , two of the PL-12 type ).

variants

  • J-15 : Single-seat basic version, copy of the Su-33
  • J-15B : Modernized variant of the J-15, new radar, " glass cockpit "
  • J-15S : Two-seat combat trainer, seats in tandem
  • J-15D : like J-15S, but instead of being used as a combat trainer for electronic warfare . Pods and other electronic equipment installed without an IRST sensor. Counterpart to the F / A-18G Growler.
