The Evangelical Lutheran Church Fortun is in the south of the village of Fortun , which is in the municipality of Luster in the Norwegian province of Vestland . It was built in 1879 and replaced the original stave church , which had become too small for the community and which was moved to Fantoft in Bergen . The church is a long church and was designed by the architect Erik Pedersen Rusten .

Appearance and structure

The church is made of wood and has a two-tier tower at the entrance portal. In the tower there is a bell from the 12th century. The nave has six large windows on both sides and ends in a five-sided choir. The church is painted white both inside and out. The altar stands in the choir and is bordered by an octagonal balustrade .

Furnishing

The church has 230 seats. A stained glass in the middle choir window shows Jesus in a blue robe and a red cloak. The church has an altar panel that was made in the 1630s and painted in 1692. It shows a diptych with Moses on the left and Christ on the right and above a small picture of the crucifixion. In the choir is the baptismal font with an inscription in Nynorsk from the Gospel of Luke “Lat småborni koma til meg - hindra dei ikkje for Guds rike høyrer slike til. Luk. 18:16. ”(Let the children come to me and do not forbid them, for the kingdom of God belongs to them.) The pulpit is attached to the right half of the choir wall.
