OXID eShop is an online shop system. It is available both as open source - software as well as in commercial editions available.

Editions

Community Edition

The Community Edition (CE) is open source, licensed under GPL Version 3 and does not cost any license fees.

Professional Edition

From the Professional Edition (PE), the shop operator has a WYSIWYG editor available in the backend . In the newer versions from 4.10.3 / 5.3.0 the product "Visual CMS" is used here.
The license conditions for this edition enable encrypted software source texts, which means that paid and non-open source modules from third-party providers can also be used with the PE version.

Enterprise Edition

The Enterprise Edition (EE) is multi- tenant, with it several subshops can be created for individual segments. Different rights and roles for the users are also supported here.

Extensions

The online shop is modularly expandable. For this purpose, the maintainer has set up a marketplace with OXID exchange . This can be used to purchase (certified) plug-ins from various developers. However, there are also modules beyond the official marketplace, e.g. B. at GitHub .

technology

OXID is developed in the PHP programming language . As database is a relational MySQL required database. A Git repository is used for version management , which is also available on GitHub.

Since the replacement of the standard template "Azure" by "Flow" and "Wave", the approach of responsive web design has been followed for the layout of the front end . As a template engine is Smarty used. Porting to Twig is being planned.

In addition to German, various other translations of the user interface are available.

distribution

While the shop system has a market share of less than one percent worldwide, it is around 5% in Germany .

For shop operators there, the fact that the maintainer is from their own country has the advantage that behavior that is required by German or European law, such as the GDPR , is often already in the core implemented or at least activated in the standard installation.
