OXO (also Noughts and Crosses ) is one of the oldest computer games and also already has a graphic display. It is a tic-tac-toe game and was developed on the EDSAC by A. Sandy Douglas as his PhD in 1952 . Douglas received his PhD from Cambridge University . He had the idea of displaying OXO on a 35 × 16 pixel screen.

The game is played against an AI- controlled opponent. The player could determine who played the first move (EDSAC / player). Using a mechanical telephone dialing device, the player could choose where he would like to place his zero or his cross. The game was played almost a decade before Spacewar! programmed, but it was not very successful because nobody owned an EDSAC and you could only play OXO in the university .
