The Oates Bank ( English ) is a submarine bank in the Somov Sea off the Oates coast of the East Antarctic Victoria Land .

The designation, recognized by the Advisory Committee for Undersea Features since September 1997 , was made at the suggestion of the US oceanographer Steven C. Cande of the Scripps Institution of Oceanography . The bank is named after the coast of the same name. It is named after the British polar explorer Lawrence Oates (1880–1912).
