Obentraut Chapel

The Evangelical Lutheran Obentraut Chapel is a sacred building in Döteberg near Seelze . It belongs to the Evangelical Lutheran Barbara Church Community of Harenberg-Döteberg.

history

The straight and straightforward Obentraut Chapel was built in 1961 by the architect Friedrich Biester and inaugurated in 1963. It is named after the Protestant general Hans Michael Elias von Obentraut , who died in Seelze during a battle in the Thirty Years' War . The chapel stands on a plot of land on which there was previously a memorial for those who died in the two world wars. The memorial plates were later integrated into the church tower .

Bell jar

The bell dates from 1728 and is a foundation of the widow of Pastor Dannenberg, who worked here from 1701 to 1713. Before the chapel received the bell, it had its place in a free-standing bell tower near the first school building; from 1915 it adorned the new school building in Döteberg. After the school building was expanded, the bell was no longer used and was stored until the chapel was built.
