There were eight public holidays in the Soviet Union and also a few days of honor and remembrance.

12. April | Cosmonaut Day | День космонавтики | Day of the first space flight by Yuri Gagarin 1961. Non-work holiday. |
1st of May | Labor Day | Первое Мая - День международной солидарности трудящихся ("International Workers Solidarity Day") | Was celebrated on May 1st and 2nd. |
May 9 | day of the victory | День Победы | End of the Great Patriotic War , through the unconditional surrender of the Wehrmacht , 1945 |
October 7th | Constitution Day of the USSR | День Конституции СССР | Day the Soviet Constitution of 1977 was ratified - was celebrated on December 5th between 1936 and 1977 |
November 7th | Great October Socialist Revolution | Годовщина Великой Октябрьской социалистической революции or Седьмое ноября | Celebration for the beginning of the October Revolution, 1917. Was celebrated on November 7th and 8th. |
