Chiatura trolleybus

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Chiatura trolleybus was a trolleybus operator in Georgia .

history

The operation consisted of a single overland route starting from the small town of Chiatura . This was opened on November 7, 1967 and was initially nine kilometers long. On July 1, 1969, it was extended by another seven kilometers to Satschchere . The route designated as line 1 was finally shut down in June or July 2008, and in August 2008 the overhead line was already partially dismantled. The reason for the discontinuation was the drop in passengers as a result of the decline of local industry and the decreased population density. Even before it was finally closed, the Chiatura trolleybus was frequently interrupted due to a lack of electricity.

vehicles

The Tschiatura trolleybus was operated by Škoda 9Tr vehicles. 1972 the number of 25 cars reached its peak. In 1979 there were still twelve vehicles available, in 1999 the only line was served by six vehicles every 30 minutes. In 2006 only two 9Tr were still in use. A few more modern Škoda 14Tr cars were recently taken over from Tbilisi , but in Chiatura they were only used as spare parts donors.
