Leović ( Serbian Cyrillic : Леовић) is a village in western Serbia , near the border with Bosnia and Herzegovina .

Geography and population

location

The village is located in the Ljubovija Opština , in the Okrug Mačva . Leović belongs to the historical Azbukovica region which is part of the Podrinje region . The Azbukovica Region includes the entire Ljubovija Opština.

Leović is located about 8.4 km southeast of the municipality capital Ljubovija . The village is a scattered settlement consisting of the following hamlets : Leović, Sarići, Stajčići, Baurić, Jovanovići, Mitrovići, Dubrave and Radenkovica .

Neighboring villages of Leović are: Caparić in the south , Donja Orovica in the north, Gornja Orovica or Tornik in the east and Berlovine in the west . All four neighboring villages are in Serbia and belong to the same municipality as Leović, namely Ljubovija .

Waters

The village is east of the Drina River , which here represents the border between Serbia and Bosnia . The Orahovica River (also Orahovička Reka) also flows past the northern border of the town. And the source of the Bukovica river has its source in the southeastern part of Leović.

The following streams flow through the village area: Dubravski Potok, Stajčića Potok and Dubovički Potok . The water springs in the village are called: Kojina Voda, Vukićeva Voda, Studenac, Sijerak and Stublina .

hill

Leović is bordered by the Drmnik (west), Rusimovac (south) hills , in the east by the Ravna Gora mountains and in the north by the Orahovica river .

The eastern part of the village lies largely in the area of ​​the Ravna Gora Mountains. A considerable part of the mountain is in the village area and in recent years the western side of the Ravna Gora has been heavily cleared. The east side of the mountain range, however, is still heavily forested.

On the western border of the village, west of the hamlet of Baurić, is the large slope of the Drmnik hill. The Dubovički Potok stream flows through the village from the direction of the Rusimovac hill . From its source begins a plateau that extends to the two hill slopes Koren and Skrajnik, which descend steeply into the Orahovička Reka valley on the northern border of the village. Most of Leović is on this plateau.

The second part of the village stands below the hill Rusimovac and the Ravna Gora at the source of the Bukovica.

The individual hills of the hill chains have the following names: Drmnik, Dubovik, Dubrave, Rusimovac, Brdo, Vukićevac, Osoje, Ozrijen, Debelo Osoje, Stajčića Brdo, Koren, Skrajnik, Prisadi and Ravna Gora.

The fields in the village bear the following field names : Brdo, Drmnik, Dubovik, Dolovi, Dubrave, sinkhole, Jazbine, Poljane, Selišta and Vrtače . Raspberries and blackberries are grown in the village .

The place had 204 inhabitants in the 2011 census, compared to 318 inhabitants in 2002. According to the last three population statistics, the number of inhabitants continues to fall. 100% of the population are Serbs . The place consists of 117 households.

history

In the village area, especially near the hamlets of Dubrave and Leović and the slopes of Rusimovac, old graves, paths and excavation sites were found. In the past, these finds proved that the Leović open-cast mine was operated.

In 1930 the following Serbian families lived in the village: Sarić, Jovanović, Aleksić, Petrović, Drobnjak, Mitrović, Milovanović, Vasić, Stajčić, Despotović, Stevanović and Obradović . The oldest families, some of whom have lived in Leović for centuries, are the Sarić and Mitrović. In 1930 Leović consisted of 117 households.

In the past, today's hamlet Sarići was an independent village, which was incorporated into Leović in 1979.

religion

The inhabitants of the village are Serbian Orthodox Christians . Leović belongs to the parish Gornja Bukovica in the dean's office Azbukovica of the eparchy Šabac of the Serbian Orthodox Church. There is no church building in the village.

Infrastructure

Leović has the Petar Vragolić primary school. The village belongs to the local community (Mesna zajednica) Caparić, based in Caparić , next to the village of Vrhpolje .
