Vrhpolje ( Serbian - Cyrillic Врхпоље ) is a village in western Serbia , near the border with Bosnia and Herzegovina .

The village is located in the Opština Ljubovija , in the Okrug Mačva , in north-western central Serbia , in the historical Azbukovica region , which is part of the Serbian- Bosnian border region Podrinje , named after the Drina river .

The place had 926 inhabitants at the 2011 census, compared to 985 inhabitants in 2002. According to the last three population statistics, the population of Vrhpolje continues to fall. The village consists of 316 households. 99% of the population are Serbs .

Vrhpolje, together with Crnča, is one of the two largest villages in Opština . The village lies on the banks of the Drina and at the foot of Mount Nemić. Vrhpolje is located south of the municipal capital Ljubovija . The village is a scattered settlement consisting of several hamlets , one of which is called Udrž .

history

In Vrhpolje you can see the remains of a Roman settlement. In the vicinity of Vrhpolje there is a small ethno village founded in 2005 that recreates the life of the people 100 years ago. The village has a primary school.

From 1995 to 1999 the Serbian Orthodox branch church of St. Prophet Jeremias was built in the hamlet of Udrž, which belongs to the village , and was inaugurated on July 24, 2010.
