The Karner Burgschleinitz is located in the cemetery of the parish church in Burgschleinitz in the market town of Burg-Kühnring in the district of Horn in Lower Austria . The Karner is a listed building ( list entry ).

history

The Karner was mentioned in a document in 1405 as being under construction. In 1978, wall paintings were uncovered inside .

architecture

The Gothic rotunda from the beginning of the 15th century has a Romanesque core in the base zone .

The facade is structured by semicircular services on a sloping base cornice. Above it rises a stone conical roof with an incised square stone window and a renewed finial . On the eastern side there is a semicircular apse with a bricked pointed arched window . In the west, the Karner is accessible through a pointed arch portal with bars in a profiled soffit via a seven- step conical staircase . On the north side there is a square stone outer pulpit, open on the west side, on Tuscan columns . To the north and to the east there is a parapet slab with an egg frame and reliefs of Matthew and Luke or Johannes and Markus from around 1580.

The interior is hexagonal and has a stone rib vault on circular services with semicircular and polygonal bases. The vault has a round keystone with a four-pass profile and an empty heraldic shield . The brick apse niche has a bricked round arched reveal and a southern rectangular window. In the six-part vault, fragments of frescoes of angels with tools of passion from the first half of the 17th century can be seen. On the south side, the windows have ornamental painting with remains of inscriptions. The east-side decorative paintings in geometric shapes were made towards the end of the 19th century.
