Obermaier Colony

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Obermaiersche Kolonie is a settlement in Munich .

location

The settlement is located in the Denning district of Munich in the 13 Bogenhausen district to the east of Ostpreußenstrasse around the square Zur Deutschen Einheit . It extends from Posener Strasse (the old course of Daglfinger Strasse) to Memeler Strasse and from Ostpreußenstrasse to Marienburger Strasse.

history

The building contractor Leonhard Obermaier, who also owned one of the Denninger Höfe, divided the site into individual plots from 1925 after the brickworks on the property had been closed and sold them. A small housing estate was built on these properties, which was named Obermaiersche Kolonie after the former landowner.

During the construction of the settlement in 1928, traces of a Roman estate , the Villa rustica von Denning, were found during road construction .

After the Second World War , the simple development was increasingly replaced by larger houses and villas.

description

The Obermaiersche Colony has an extension of about 500 meters in north-south direction and about 350 meters in east-west direction. Their area is about 17 hectares.

Similar to the Denninger Colony , which was formed around the same time, the Obermaiersche Colony is characterized by single-family houses surrounded by gardens.

In contrast to the Denningen colony, the Obermaier colony has a grassy square at the center of the settlement , the square Zur Deutschen Einheit , on which the monument to German unity was erected in 2005 .
