Supreme mining authority in the GDR

The Supreme Mining Authority at the Council of Ministers of the GDR (OB) was a central organ of the Council of Ministers of the GDR for the exercise of state mining supervision , as well as for the regulation of certain fundamental questions of mining and the associated public safety.

The OB was formed with effect from September 1, 1959 from the Technical Mining Inspection of the GDR with its seat in Leipzig . The mining operations were subject to the supervision of the mining authorities in terms of technology and safety.

The OB controlled the planned development of mining safety and mine rescue and gas protection and defined the main tasks of research and development. It should influence that the impairment of the territories by the mining work should remain limited to a minimum and controlled the planned development of the reclamation .

The OB investigated incidents such as fires, explosions, etc. a. in mining and evaluated them, taking the necessary measures. It approved the use of mine separators as well as explosives and accessories in the national economy. It kept the official list of explosives , the register of mining protection areas and the basic overviews of areas at risk of mining damage.

The OB was subordinated to the mining authorities, as organs for the direct state mining supervision, as well as the central office for mine rescue and gas protection and the institute for mining safety. The duties, rights and obligations of the OB were regulated in the first and second regulation (1) on the statute of the OB.
