Supreme Service Authority
The highest service authority of a civil servant is the supreme authority of an employer in whose area of responsibility the civil servant holds an office ( § 3 sentence 1 BBG ). In the immediate federal administration , this is usually a ministry. In the area of indirect federal administration (establishment, foundation), the determination of the highest service authority is mostly regulated separately in the establishment laws or in part also in the statutes.
Examples

- the official of the Federal Central Tax Office is the Federal Ministry of Finance ,
- the official of the Federal Employment Agency is the board, and

For state officials there are similar regulations in the state laws.
