The Oberteich is the city lake of the northwest Mecklenburg town of Schönberg .
The approximately eleven hectare large Oberteich is located in the urban area of Schönberg, northwest of the historical core area around the St. Laurentius Church and the market square. It is surrounded by a park with a riverside path that characterizes the cityscape. The Oberteich's fishing waters contain eel, perch, bream, pike, carp, roach, tench and pikeperch. The inflow comes from the west via the Rupensdorfer Bach , on which there are also other extensive lakes and ponds, such as the Rupensdorfer ponds and the reed pond , connected with a carp breeding facility. This natural network represents an attractive local recreation area for Schönberg, to which numerous sports and leisure facilities in the city are affiliated.
The Oberteich drains into the city via a drainage ditch into the Maurine . The water level is 4.2 m above sea level. NHN . Water depths of over two meters are reached.
The water was dammed in the Middle Ages and was a mill pond . In the election surrender of Ratzeburg Bishop Heinrich III. Bergmeier from 1511 is the passage: “He was obliged, if he would own Schönberg, not to damming the water in the upper pond (Latin:“ superior piscina ”, still now called“ Oberteich ”) in such a way that the people in Rubensdorf were harmed but he had enough reserve water for his mill. " contained.
