Observatorio Astronómico Nacional de Llano del Hato

The Observatorio Astronómico Nacional de Llano del Hato is an observatory in Venezuela , operated by the Centro de Investigaciones de Astronomia (CIDA). It is located in the Andes at an altitude of 3600 meters above the village of Llano del Hato, fifty kilometers northeast of the city of Mérida . The observatory houses four telescopes, each in its own dome: a large refractor and a mirror telescope from Zeiss, as well as the world's fifth largest Schmidt camera and a double astrograph from Askania . These instruments were purchased by the Venezuelan government in 1954 and installed in the observatory in the early 1970s.

The observatory includes a museum and an exhibition in which the work of the observatory and the basics of astronomy are presented to visitors.
