Aedes annulipes ( synonym Ochlerotatus annulipes ) is a two-winged fly fromthe mosquito family (Culicidae). Within the collective genus Aedes , Aedes annulipes is placed in the subgenus Ochlerotatus .
features
The mosquitoes are six to seven millimeters long. They look very similar to Aedes cantans , but their legs are wider, ringed with white. The species name annulipes ("Ringelbein") comes from these broad ringlets. Like many other species of the subgenus Ochlerotatus, the males have strongly pinnate antennae and long hairy distal palpebral limbs .
Occurrence and way of life
The animals are distributed from Western Europe to Russia. They colonize meadows and forests and fly from May to autumn.
Systematics
Aedes annulipes belongs to the subgenus Ochlerotatus within the genus Aedes . Ochlerotatus was separated from the genus Aedes by John F. Reinert in 2000 , but was reunited with it by other authors in 2015. The group of mosquitoes, which previously belonged to the genus Ochlerotatus , is now placed in the subgenus of the same name.
