Stanley Glover

Stanley Glover ( Stanley Brooks "Stan" Glover ; born April 18, 1908 in Newcastle upon Tyne , United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland , † February 23, 1964 in Saskatoon , Canada ) was a Canadian athlete .

Career

Born in Newcastle upon Tyne, England, Glover emigrated to Canada with his family at an early age. After a short stay in Edmonton , he grew up in Saskatoon in 1913 and made a name for himself in the region as a marksman and track and field athlete. After graduating from high school, he focused on athletics and became the Canadian champion in the 440-yard run in 1925.

His consistent achievements earned Glover a nomination for the Canadian 4 x 400 meter relay at the 1928 Olympic Games in Amsterdam. There the team won the bronze medal behind the US and the German relay in the line-up of James Ball , Glover, Phil Edwards and Alex Wilson .

At the British Empire Games in Hamilton in 1930 , Glover won the silver medal behind the English and in front of the South African team as the final runner of the Canadian 4-by-440-yard relay team with Alex Wilson, Art Scott and James Ball. On the other hand, he retired from his single start over 440 yards after the heats. Glover finished his track and field career in 1932. He was then successful in curling at the regional level and remained loyal to this sport until his death in 1964.
