Octave Leopold Boudouard

Octave Leopold Boudouard (* 1872 in Amenucourt ; † 1923 ) was a French chemist . It is known for the Boudouard equilibrium (around 1900) between carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide over glowing carbon, which is practically important, for example, in blast furnaces .

Boudouard received his doctorate in Paris in 1901 (Recherches sur les équilibres chimiques). He was professor for applied chemistry and from 1914 for glass and ceramics at the Conservatoire National des Arts et Métiers .

He dealt with temperature measurement, alloys, allotropy of nickel and the analysis of rare earths and monazite sands . In 1912 he published an analysis of the odorous substances in Paris.
