The Odense Canal connects the port of Odense with the Odense Fjord . The Fynsværket thermal power station is on the canal bank . Between the canal and the Odense Fjord is the island of Stige Ø , a recreational area that was created on a former landfill.

history

The canal and parts of the port were laid out between 1796 and 1806. Part of the original harbor is in the area of ​​the drained Næsbyhoved Sø. Both the canal and the port were later expanded. The canal is 7.5 m deep.

The swing bridge Odin's office was inaugurated on June 15, 2014. It cost about 225 million crowns , of which the state paid 125 million crowns. It is the only crossing over the canal.

Stige Færge

The Stige ferry, which operates on the canal, connects the Odense district of Stige with Bågø.
