The Stadtgarde Oecher Penn is the oldest association of the Aachen Carnival . It was founded on March 3, 1857 and currently has over 700 members.

history

The Oecher Penn emerged from the glee club Concordia and the Aachen Carnival Society Florresei from which a little later the Aachen Carnival Association was formed. The name is formulated in the local dialect, the Öcher Platt , where Oche stands for Aachen. The name Penn should from the carving of small thin wooden sticks, the Holzpinnchen result or wood Penn. These pens were needed by the cobblers for soling their shoes and the former soldiers improved their wallets with the sale. Therefore they were also called Pinn-Zeldaate / Penn soldiers . The sculpture Penn Soldat by Klaus Gehlen from 2007 in front of the Marschiertor, a bronze cast , made in Monschau, has passed down this carving .

The city guard Oecher Penn was originally a parody of the city soldiers of the free imperial city of Aachen. This city militia was decommissioned when Napoleonic troops marched into Aachen and dissolved after 1815 in Prussian times. Their historically verifiable colors are: blue-white-red.

The so-called headquarters of the association is the Aachener Marschiertor and its current commander Jürgen Brammertz, alias Jürgen va Marschierpooetz . About 145 Penn guardsmen with a couple of sutlers belong to the association. They march to the music of the Penn March. The military structure is divided into soldier corps, ensign corps, officer corps, minstrel and music train. The Spielmannszug was founded in March 1982.
