Openness (psychology)
Openness to experience is a factor-analytically determined personality trait in personality psychology .
description
The characteristic openness to experiences , together with extraversion , tolerance , conscientiousness and neuroticism, form the five main dimensions of a personality according to the five-factor model (Big Five). Openness is assumed to be normally distributed , so that most people have medium levels and extreme values are rare.
People with a lot of openness are characterized by adjectives ( lexical approach ) such as
- resourceful, original, inventive, imaginative
- intellectually curious, open to new ideas
- interested in aesthetics such as art, music and poetry
- with a preference for variety (instead of routine), inclination to new activities, new travel destinations, new food, etc.
- attentive to own and other emotions
At the other end of the scale (little openness) are adjectives such as conservative, conventional, routine, uninterested, etc.
