Officer's House (Wiener Neustadt)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The officers' house in Wiener Neustadt ( Lower Austria ) served between 1807 and 1926 as a residence for officers , as a barracks and as an administration building.

history

monarchy

In October 1807, the military armed forces acquired the house at Wiener Strasse 27 (today: 21) and assigned it to the “Equitation Institute” in the Paulinerkaserne . On the basis of a very high resolution from 1823, the Equitation Institute building became a residential building for the corps commanders and other officers. In the same letter the new name was also determined: "Officiers-Haus".

There is uncertainty about the further use of the building; information is only available again from June 1892. Parts of the following troops of the Austro-Hungarian Army were stationed in the officers' house :

  • Dragoon Regiment No. 4 (June 1892 - March 1902)
  • Dragoon Regiment No. 5 (April 1902 - April 1908)
  • Bosnian Herzegovinian Infantry Regiment No. 1 (March 1910 - March 1912)
  • Uhlan Regiment Number 4 (March 1912 - August 1914)

First republic

After the collapse of the monarchy, a soldiers' council elected at a meeting in the armory barracks stayed here for a short time . From May 1920 the command of the "Lower Austria Number 1 Infantry Regiment" was stationed in the former officers 'house in addition to some officers' apartments.

On December 1, 1920, the city of Wiener Neustadt took over management of the building, which was still state-owned. On February 27, 1926, the right of ownership was passed to the City of Wiener Neustadt through an exchange and rental agreement. The same contract, however, allowed the military to use the second floor for ten years for army administration purposes against rent. In March 1931 the command was transferred to the artillery barracks.

On October 24, 1934, the city council sold the house to private customers.
