monarchy

Complaints about the increasing number of billeting of soldiers in civilian houses in the city led to the fact that on August 11, 1779 , the Arar handed over the " Imperial Armory " to the town so that it could bear the burden of billeting more easily.

However, the costs for the necessary renovation work and the purchase of the facility remained with the Lower Austrian city of Wiener Neustadt, which was forced to borrow money to pay the bills.

In the armory barracks, the city's first barracks , mainly infantry units of the Austro-Hungarian army were stationed. Among other things, parts of the Bosnian-Herzegovinian infantry regiment number 1 were located here (1910–1912) or the staff of the fireworks corps (1817–1865) - renamed "Raketeurkorps" in 1850, from which the name " Raketeurkaserne " , which was used for a time, was derived. derived.

1st republic

In order to end looting in the first days after the collapse of the monarchy, the city set up a " city guard ". A part of this "city guard" gathered in the armory barracks.

The end of the First World War also brought the end of the armory barracks. This was dissolved and used civilly.

2nd republic

Bomb hits during the Second World War damaged the former barracks so badly that it was no longer sensible to rebuild it after the war. In their place an official building for the “Federal Police Commissariat” and the “Surveying Office Wiener Neustadt” was built. Only the two renaissance portals (the main portal to Burgplatz and the side portal to Burggasse) remained and were integrated into the new building.
