Oh Soo-yeon (* 1964 in Seoul ) is a South Korean writer .

Life

Oh Soo-yeon was born in Seoul in 1964. In 1994 her first novel The National Day of the Dwarf Country was published , which was awarded the prize for young writers of the magazine Moderne Literatur (Hyŏndae munhak). In 1997 the short story The Empty House was published. From 1997, Oh Soo-yeon lived in India for two years and in 2001 published the novel Die Küche , based on experiences from her stay in India , in which she observes and describes people's eating habits. She received the literary prize of the daily newspaper Hankook Ilbo for the story Die Herrlichkeit auf Erden .

In March 2003 she traveled to Iraq as envoy of the "Writers' Conference for National Literature" and at the same time as a member of the Korean-Iraqi anti-war initiative. To report on Palestine, she traveled through Palestine with the activists of the International Solidarity Movement . She wrote a documentary about her experiences during the trip to Iraq, which was published in 2004 under the title Don't Die , Abu-Ali! Iraqi War Diary was published.
