The company, based in Wehrheim since 1991 , is managed by Michael Negwer, grandson of the Berlin founder and pharmacist Maximilian Negwer , and employs around 40 people. The main product is Ohropax Classic (wax balls), of which over 30 million balls are made every year. In addition, Ohropax sells other hearing protection products and health items. The company only makes the wax products itself.

history

In 1907 Maximilian Negwer founded the company “Factory of pharmaceutical and cosmetic specialties Max Negwer”. The first pack of OHROPAX noise protectors was sold in autumn 1908 at a price of one gold mark (around € 5.89 adjusted for inflation). The tin box contained six pairs of wax balls and was available in medical and department stores. Ear plugs were also registered as a trademark in 1911.

In 1912 Prof. Jenny Preiß registered a utility model for noise protection, which Ohropax used for earplugs. Jenny Preiß received a license fee from Maximilian Negwer during the term of this utility model.

In August 1914, Lieutenant General Freiherr von Dinklage recommended the product to the War Ministry for use in the military. In 1916 the military introduced OHROPAX. In this way, large strata of the population got to know the product for the first time, making earplugs noise protectors the company's main product. In 1924 the company's headquarters were moved from Berlin to Potsdam ; after the Second World War from there to Frankfurt am Main and shortly afterwards to Bad Homburg .

Until the 1980s, the tin with the balls contained a piece of wire with two ends bent into a circle. This made it easier to remove the introduced wax balls from the ears.
