Oiva Kalervo Toikka (born May 29, 1931 in rural municipality Wiborg , † April 22, 2019 in Helsinki ) was a Finnish designer .

Life

After training as a ceramist, Toikka worked from 1956 to 1959 in the artistic department of the Arabia porcelain factory. During this time he created expressive sculptures of people and animals that attracted a lot of attention. In 1963 he took over the position of chief designer of the Nuutajärvi glassworks . Here he created glass objects intended for series production, both from blown and pressed glass. In addition, he designed glass sculptures and art glass objects.

Toikka's works are characterized by their love of experimentation and color. His glass sculptures got rid of functional demands.
