Okina Chabo

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Okina-chabo is a Japanese breed of bantam .

The Chabos (translated: "small grotesque") are ancient Japanese dwarf chickens and belong to the so-called "original dwarfs", i.e. the real dwarf breeds that have always only existed in small form, in contrast to breeds that were later dwarfed, that is, reduced by breeding . such as B. the little silkies . The male is called the rooster and the female is called the hen .

Okina chabos are a bearded form of chabos that have wattles in their beards ("Okina" means "old man with a white beard"). The bearded chabos were created in Japan around 1923 as the youngest variant of the Japanese chabos. They have been recognized as a breed in Germany since 1996. In the past, okinas, like the Seramas today, were bred to be particularly small, today the weight of the roosters is around 600 grams, the hen up to 500 grams. The only recognized color shade is white and AOC white, silky-feathered, although other shades are said to exist in Japan. Okina chabos are relatively rare both in Europe and in Japan, the country of origin.

In Germany the breed is promoted by the Chabo breeders' club from 1925 e. V. supervised.
