history
Memphis Pharaoh (1995–1996)
The franchise was founded in 1995 in Memphis, Tennessee . After they had reached the playoffs in the first year, but had already failed in the first round, the second season ended with not a single win and fourteen defeats.
Portland Forest Dragons (1997-1999)
At the beginning of the 1997 season, the franchise moved from Memphis to Portland, Oregon . It was supposed to be Portland's first AFL franchise. A little later the city should get the Portland Thunder or Portland Steel .
But the success of the franchise in Portland also remained manageable. Only thirteen wins were brought in the three years in Portland. On the other hand there are 29 defeats. The playoffs were missed in all seasons.
The franchise made a loss of over $ 1 million in 1997, according to a report in the Memphis Business Journal.
The name Oronde Gadsden should be mentioned. This was elected Rookie of the Year 1998 in the AFL and then signed a professional contract with the Miami Dolphins in the NFL . Before his engagement with the Forest Dragons, he also played for a year with the Frankfurt Galaxy in the NFL Europe in Germany.
Oklahoma Wranglers (2000-2001)
For the 2000 season the franchise was sold and relocated one last time and moved to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. In Oklahoma, too, no participation was recorded in two years, so that the franchise was finally dissolved at the end of 2001.
In 2010 Oklahoma City should get another AFL franchise for one year with the Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz .
