Ola Brunkert

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ola Brunkert (born September 15, 1946 in Örebro , Sweden, † March 16, 2008 in Artà , Mallorca ) was a Swedish drummer.

Life

Brunkert began his musical career as a jazz musician, but he also came into contact with blues (in the band Slim's Blues Gang ) and pop (Science Poption) in the mid-1960s. After an engagement with Janne Schaffer's jazz-oriented group Opus III , Brunkert worked as a session musician and as such became one of Sweden's most sought-after drummers around 1970 . He received his greatest attention through his participation in all eight albums of the band ABBA . A first engagement with the band took place in 1972 with the single People Need Love, even before the band was actually founded and named ABBA . While the four singers Björn, Benny, Agnetha and Anni-Frid always achieved a strong public perception, the musicians behind the singers remained relatively unknown. Brunkert can be heard in all the big ABBA hits from Waterloo , Dancing Queen to The Winner Takes It All and, with an estimated 370 million ABBA records sold, is one of the most listened to drummers in music history. Between 1977 and 1980 Brunkert went on tour with ABBA. He starred in ABBA - The Film .

After ABBA broke up in 1982, he worked with various Swedish musicians before moving to Mallorca. With ABBA - The Show , which went on tour from 26 September 2007 and has appeared in Germany in 2008, he was like other former Abba-musicians guest star at the performances. He died in an accident in his home in Artà on Mallorca.
