Olaf Schubert (photographer)

Olaf Schubert (* 1974 in Zwickau ) is a German photojournalist and book author. The focus of his photographic work and his writing activities are Asian countries such as Tibet , Mongolia , Laos and Cambodia .

Life

Schubert completed his diploma on the subject of "Identity in a cultural context using the example of Tibet". He writes and photographs for books, calendars and journals. He also shows slide reports in German-speaking countries about the countries he has traveled to. He also organizes the “BilderBurg Festival”, which has been held annually since 2003 at the medieval Schönfels Castle in Lichtentanne (Saxony).

As one of the first photographers, he brought image material from closed and untravelled areas to Europe. In his work he tries above all to make the culture and social situation of other peoples understandable.

Schubert initiated and heads the aid project Kongpo-Chukla e. V. in Tibet. This association promoted u. a. the rebuilding of four schools in the remote Kongpo region of eastern Tibet, which were destroyed by floods in the rainy years of 1999 and 2000, and medical care in remote Tibetan provinces.

In 2003 he was awarded the 11th Frankfurt "Foresight Prize for socially committed photographers and journalists".

Schubert lives in Dresden .
